3. Seismology, tectonics and rock mechanics > 3b. Theoretical and practical advances in analyzing waveform data

Conveners:
Michel Campillo (ISTerre, Grenoble)
Roel Snieder (Colorado School of Mines)

Solicited Speakers: Haruo Sato, Tohoku University & Andrew Curtis, University of Edinburgh

Keywords: Physics and applications at different length scale. Analyses based on noise and earthquakes in different environments, array techniques.

Much of our knowledge of the solid earth and the ocean comes from analyzing recorded waves. Tomographic methods and imaging have been used for decades, and are based on transmitted or single-reflected waves. In this session we focus on the theoretical and practical aspects of new methods for retrieving structural information and time-lapse changes from recorded waves in seismology, ocean acoustics, industrial geophysics, and engineering.
