Conveners:
Olivier Devauchelle (IPGP)
Stephen W. Morris (Univ. Toronto)

Solicited Speaker: Lucas Goehring, Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self Organization, Göttingen

Keywords: Conceptual experiments, Laboratory analog and model systems, Scaling laws and underlying physics

This session is open to all topics in Earth sciences, with a focus on laboratory analog experiments designed to isolate a single phenomenon. Such small-scale experiments, which do not reproduce the complexity of natural systems in full, are intended to identify and explain characteristic patterns, scaling laws and specific dynamics in nature.
Contributions that present, propose or interpret laboratory experiments that bridge the gap between theory and field observation are most welcome.
